They can be confused: These are two very different diagnoses, but can be confused as they share similarities. Dissociative Disorder is a disconnection from reality and lack of continuity of thoughts, memories, surroundings, actions or identity. Usually a protective reaction to psychological trauma. Schizoaffective Disorder is a mood disorder, e.g. Depression or Bipolar, with psychoses such as hallucinations/delusions.
