A few days, but...: It can take 4-5 days or more. If it seems slower, ask your doctor about treatment with valacyclovir rather than acyclovir. Val gives much higher blood levels and is the main drug recommended for treating shingles. Acyclovir can work in especially high doses, though. Discuss with your doctor. Good luck!
