Crypts: Tonsils are pitted cryptic organs with irregular surfaces. They often swell due to inflammation/infection. Additionally, debris or tonsilloliths may be filling the interior of the tonsil. Progressive persistent asymmetry or enlargement however should be evaluated by an Otolaryngologist to rule out a neoplasm/growth.
