Might you detect leukemia only after a week of having symptoms?

YES: There is no specific symptom. Symptoms vary, for example: fevers, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue, weakness and shortness of breath to name a few. Initial best test is a: CBC - complete blood count. This might be abnormal even in the absence of symptoms.
