A member asked:

Hi, my wife went to the er yesterday because she wasn't feeling our baby move a lot....she is almost 32 weeks, when we got there they discovered she was having contractions every 3-7 minutes....her cervix seemed closed and the preterm labor test came?

Happens in pregnancy: quite common occurrence. You can have contractions without cervical dilation and thats ok. If the cervix starts to shorten or dilate, you may need steroids to help boost the babies lungs/brain etc. For now, lots of hydration and rest at home Best wishes Dr M

Dilation test due: If your wife is monitored at the hospital and she starts to dilate the cervix or the contractions become more frequent, the MD may try to stop the labor with medication.
