A member asked:

Why would my blood count be low. my doctor wants a cbc done. what is this checking for?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Need more info: If by blood count you mean your hemoglobin, getting a CBC will help in determining what kind of anemia you may have. Please follow your doctor's advice in follow up tests, as more may be needed after she/he evaluates the CBC. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex.
