I assume you are : Asking why the cortisone injection made your back worse. Most times the injection helps the first few hours with pain relief due to local anesthetic and then a period of feeling worse due to the original pain PLUS the mild trauma induced by the needle, THEN feel better with cortisone the next 2 to 7 days. But do call your provider if you experience fever or excruciating pain after a few days.
