Pyuria: WBC in urine is called pyuria. This can happen if the urine is not collected properly (should be a midstream clean catch, or catheter specimen). Any cause of inflammation can cause it, most commonly UTI (bladder or kidney infection), but other sources of irritation such as interstitial cystitis are not infections. When the culture is negative, it's called "Sterile pyuria"
