Caution and study...: NPD is a very difficult to live with personality disorder that usually has its roots in family-of-origin history. At its core is a deeply fragile ego and surrounding that are compensations--entitlement, emotional lability, acting out, etc. The treatment of choice for NPD (and BPD) starts with empathy, empathy and more empathy. Most lay people cannot go the distance with these folks...
