A member asked:

Are there any supplements that one should consider taking while on longterm ppi therapy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PPI side effects: There are pros & cons to "prophylactic" supplements also! PPI's overall are a very well tolerated class, but like any drug carry risks. In the short term they can cause a number of dose-dependent side effects including commonly headache & bowel changes. Longer term use carries other consequences (please see my earlier HealthTap answer on this topic)--like bone thinning, low magnesium, C.difficile.
