Depression: The BEST medication for depression is strenuous exercise for at least an hour daily. If you want pills- see your healthcare provider. If you prefer a solution, consider a psychologist or psychiatrist.

If you're concerned: Please seek an evaluation with a psychiatrist or psychologist for a diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Generally, medications and therapy are more effective than either one alone. A psychiatrist can prescribe meds and order laboratory studies, and a psychologist can provide therapy. You can locate these providers either in your community or here on Healthtap. Good luck!

See below: Many primary care doctors treat uncomplicated depression with medication and of course order blood panels. Psychiatrists of course can and do prescribe medication for depression and also can order blood panels ( but often prefer that the primary care doctor include the blood panel in their workup and if needed send the psychiatrist a copy of it. Try Zocdoc.com for the name of doctor near you.
