It's a coincidence: Tinnitus has several possible causes. If you're concerned, you should look up the differential diagnosis. In the absence of symptoms or signs referable to adjacent cranial nerves, I would be most concerned about hearing loss. A primary care doc can do a quick & dirty in-office hearing test or, if (s)he thinks it's indicated, can refer you for an audiogram & also possibly an electronystagmogram.
