CT is: the most accurate test we have for appendicitis. When performed with technical parameters optimized for appendicitis, the sensitivity for detecting appendicitis is as high as 95-98%. However, no test is 100%, and no test should be interpreted in a clinical vacuum, so if there are other clinical factors involved, they should not be ignored.

About 85% sure: The CT scan is relatively accurate. About 85% of appendicitis appear on CT scan. But CT scans are often negative when the appendix is inflamed, so you have to take the results in context with clinical signs (abdominal pain, fever). If the CT scan is positive, that is generally accurate (about 95%) & helps make a diagnosis, but a diagnosis can be made other ways when the CT is negative.
