A doctor has provided 1 answer

Lymph node?: Are you sure it is a cold sore? You can get an inflamed lymph node from acute herpes. If you have recurring herpes, a valacyclovir [acyclovir] pill at the prodrome will make a significant difference. Prodrome is the tingling sensation announcing an impending attack. Most "cold sores" are herpes simplex type 1. A dermatologist will help you.
