Unknown: This substance has no approval for the treatment of dementia, but is alleged to have health benefits including prevention of dementia. It certainly does no harm to take it.

Probably not: Turmeric is touted as a possible preventative spice to explain the lower incidence of Alzheimer's in India, but so far, research studies have only shown a weak protective aspect. Once Alzheimer's is present, unlikely there is any effect from dietary measures, and medical foods such as Axona, or memory enhancing agents such a Namzaric are needed.

Very promising: More research is needed but a large body of science suggests that, according to this review of the literature, curcumin (a turmeric extract) is "a promising treatment for Alzheimer's.": http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2781139/ However, it's important to use a highly absorbable form- see http://tinyurl.com/jychpa9 Based on current knowledge, I believe curcumin is well worth trying.
