Pain in the hand or: wrist can be severe enough so that it radiates up the arm. Alternatively the source of the pain may be in the shoulder or neck and the nerves to the wrist are inflamed in the neck or shoulder, this is so called referred pain or a radiculopathy when the spine or neck nerve are involved. A proper physical exam, history, X-rays or other radiologic images may be needed to sort this out.
