A member asked:

Is it possible for a doctor to distinguish between diabetic nerve pain and arterial disease in the lower legs?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Clarification: Usually description of symptoms should suffice to distinguish. But if you want tests...Arterial disease can be detected based on either ankle bracial index (blood pressure difference between arm and leg) or conventional angiogram. Diabetic nerve damage can be detected using emg. (test using needles and stimulating the nerves).
