How badly?: How badly are you hurt? Were you able to walk off the court? Do you have swelling or bruising? Is the pain localized? Apply ice, elevate, and rest, take an over the counter anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen with some food, as long as you are not allergic to the medication and have no other medical problems. Go see a doctor for a full evaluation.

Get a good brace: Many patients have consistent ankle sprains throughout their lives...I recommend a supportive ankle brace that you can wear during rehab and when playing basketball once this sprain has healed. Make sure to stay off from it as much as possible, elevate, ice and use a topical natural anti-inflammatory.

Stop Dribbling.: Until the nature of the "hurt" can be evaluated as to location, duration, swelling, pain and a host of other parameters can be obtained......nothing. You need a thorough evaluation of your ankle to evaluate the basis of the instability as well as any biomechanical involvement. Seek out a foot/ ankle/ ortho/ pod/ sportmedicine specialist for a well deserved evaluation.
