Thyroid function: Hypothyroidism is related to burn out of the thyroid with low production of thyroid hormone. Hyperthyroidism is excess production of thyroid hormone. Both need to be investigated and treated as they are serious conditions.

Thyroid: Hypothyroidism is an underactive thyroid gland. Hyperthyroidism is an overactive thyroid gland.
