Never heard of the : Distinction before. I think that when an anatomist was looking at a bone with a preponderance of fat in it he may have "grossly" characterized it as being a "yellow" marrow because of its fatty high fat content. On the other hand a marrow without as much fat and a higher red cell concentration might have characterized as a red marrow. Hope that helps. Just my random thoughts on the matter...
