Time line: If there is no doubt about when a woman conceived, by 6 weeks gestation an embryo with a heart beat should be visible on transvaginal ultrasound. If conception is unknown then the absence of a yolk sac and a heart beat could indicate that the pregnancy is not along as far as believed.
