Tx of bronchitis: For the most part acute bronchitis in an otherwise healthy patient is caused by a virus. Antibiotics will NOT treat viral bronchitis. That being said - you may have had other symptoms that made him think bacterial infection - and that would be impossible for me to know. I don't want to jump over his treatment but I normally use mucinex (guaifenesin) and something for fever before antibiotics.
