A member asked:

I have a black mark on the lower right corner of my pinky toenail on my right foot. it's very small and looks to be horizontal in lgth. what could be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The Black Toe: Subunguinal hematomas (blood under the nail) are caused by shoe friction. Usually the shoe is a little short or the toe box toe shallow. Tumors in toes can happen but very, very rarely. The nail will eventually grow out as normal but in an extensive hemorrhage under the entire nail, the nail will shed. Ignore it.
