Post-viralnasal drip: This is very common to have after a viral cold. Post-nasal drip causes the feeling of needing to clear your throat. It is common in the morning hours after you have been lying flat for a while. This should over time go away. However, it may be prudent to be checked out by an allergist and evaluate whether allergies have developed, because this is also a common sign of rhinitis caused by allergies.
