If side effects to: Effexor (venlafaxine) are intolerable, consult your prescriber about switching to another medication such as bupropion (very low incidence of sexual side effects) if not already tried. Even a brief break from Effexor (venlafaxine) may have uncomfortable withdrawal effects and may not alleviate the problem. Best to address the issue under the direction of your prescriber. Best regards for relief.

Sexual side effects: Anytime you have side effects, discuss with your provider, and determine a course of action. If you’re requiring two days per month due to side effects, perhaps another medication is in order. Please inform your prescriber in order help him/her to determine a more tolerable plan that’s right for you. Good luck!

Not recommended: After being on this medication for longer than one week, it should not be stopped abruptly. Taking a break suddenly could cause very unpleasant withdrawal symptoms; some people feel suicidal. It is important to clue your doctor into the fact that your are experiencing this effect. S/He may opt to guide you through a slow withdrawal or change your medication to something that works better for you.
