A member asked:

Should a loosened screw on an implant crown be removed, cleaned/inspected, prior to retightening? if not, could a bacterial infection develop?

No infection: If a screw gets loose on an implant crown, I recommend replacing the screw. The screw could have stretched and therefore could be weak. If that is the case it may break in the future. That would not be good. If bacteria get in the screw hole there would not be anything to sustain them and there will not be an infection.

Yes: Yes, it should be removed, inspected & evaluated for why the screw became loose. Bacterial infection should not be an issue with the loosened screw.. Please see the dentist that placed the crown or your local dentist to evaluate the implant.
