Coronary disease: The coronary arteries bring the blood and oxygen supply to the heart muscle. They can be affected by atherosclerosis, which is a disease of the arterial wall. If the disease causes plaque narrowings severe enough to limit the blood-carrying capacity of the artery, it is called obstructive. Both obstructive and non-obstructive disease can cause heart attacks if a plaque ruptures and a clot forms.
