A member asked:

My tonsils are swollen, bleeding and have pus on them. its difficult to swallow and breathe. what can i do to get comfortable through the night?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor should check: "Difficult to swallow and breathe" can mean something bad is happening or about to happen. It could be a huge abscess. One cannot tell, without an exam. If it is a case of mono, steroids such as prednisone are sometimes used in the treatment of mono, such as to shrink down extremely enlarged tonsils so that a patient can breathe and swallow properly while his mono illness gradually subsides.
