Flea bites - intense: Pain & itching results from an allergic reaction to the materials that the fleas inject into the skin at the time of the bite. You can use over-the-counter 1% hydrocortisone cream/ointment to relieve itching. Antihistamines you take by mouth may also help with itching =benadryl at night, zyrtec (cetirizine) during daytime. Scratching can lead to a skin infection - get your skin checked by physician ASAP.
