Changes in nails: are associated with chronic kidney disease, not that just caused by polycystic kidney disease. The buildup of nitrogen waste products seems to be the culprit as well as medications and malnutrition. These horizontal or transverse ridges are called Beau's lines. Your kidney disease has interfered with the growth of the nail. The ridged nails can also be spoon-shaped/concave from anemia.
