Depends: A growing 9 yo should get no less than 9 and sometimes as much as 12 hours of sleep per day. The actual need is influenced by mental activity (studying for tests/homework) and physical activity (competitive sports). Falling asleep during sedentary activities like watching TV, car rides, or difficulty rising in the AM suggest a sleep deficit.
