It depends: Most pain specialists are in high demand so they want to limit their responsibilities and expertise to patients who can clearly benefit from their expertise. If you have a chronic pain problem all the more reason you have a primary care provider because with the stress of pain you are more likely to have other medical problems. I suggest you get a pcp regardless.
