A member asked:

Can someone tell me how long will a brain-dead person last on life support?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Record is 23 years: Some zealots in nebraska kept a loved one's body on a ventilator, heart going, this long. No brain or nervous tissue left at autopsy. Heart doesn't require brain support. Longest in-hospital is 30 days. Stories that people with an agenda have told you about truly brain-dead people recovering are fiction. Please note that the law is brain-dead means dead, and "life support" is no longer applicable.
