A member asked:

Does atenolol or avapro (irbesartan) make it difficult to lose weight? how do you overcome this if diet and exercise are not working quickly?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes and no: B"sd avapro - basically a kind of weak diuretic atenolol is associated with weight gain, higher blood sugar and decreased blood flow to limbs. Substituition with a "balanced" beta blocker has been shown to give some mild weight loss, metabolic improvements and better blood flow to extremeties.
