A member asked:

My friend has asthma he has to take an orange inhaler plus a purple one, how's the purple one different from the blue rescue one??

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Asthma: My first recommendation is to refrain from describing medications by color. I advocate that all my patients know exactly what medications they are taking by name and dose. When treating asthma you want to only use the rescue inhaler for just that "a rescue" medication. The other inhaler (i.e. Advair) is for maintenance - take is as scheduled everyday (usually x2/day) to minimize rescue inhaler.
