A member asked:

Is it safe to take .6 mg a day of colchicine for pericarditis for a month. is it likely to to become toxic at that. i have been drinking more water.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

COLCHICINE: COLCHICINE IS SAFE AT LOW DOSES. WITH GOUT WE USE 1-2 TABS PER DAY FOR MONTHS WHILE ADDING LONG TERM THERAPY. WE MAY MAINTAIN THIS DOSE FOR MONTHS OR EVEN YEARS. ONE/DAY TO KEEP THINGS QUIET THEN 2/DAY IF A FLARE. GOUTY PATIENTS WHO HAVE BEEN ON COLCHICINE FOR YEARS ARE MORE SUBJECT TO MUSCLE AND/OR NERVE PROBLEMS. IT IS DANGEROUS IN PEOPLE WITH KIDNEY FAILURE SINCE YHERE IS NO ANTIDOTE.
