A member asked:

I.v. vs i.m. injection of zofran (ondansetron) for nausea caused by norovirus: which one is better and why?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

IV is faster onset: IV (intravenous) vs. IM (intramuscular) are different ways this drug can be administered. Based on pharmacologic references the effects of Zofran (ondansetron) typically peak at end of IV infusion and typically peak around 30 mins for IM injection. Therefore onset of action of IV is faster however you need a IV line in place to administer therefore typically done in hospital or infusion center.
