Try oral meds: Radiation therapy to the Head and Neck can cause severe complications related to the inflammatory response which produces severe mucositis resulting in markded difficultry in swallowing.and talking Various oral meds including Sucralfate mouth washes can be beneficial in decreasing the intensity of radiation-induced mucositis and its oral discomfort. Zinc sulfate administered during head and neck radiation therapy produced no significant benefit in relieving radiation-induced oral mucositis and pharyngitis. Should severe symptoms persist then a temporary gastric feeding tube can be employed for the several weeks needed for symptoms to subside.
