Dry throat: Because it hurts to swallow after a tonsillectomy, patients often get dry mucous membranes which worsens post-op pain. Gargling with warm salt water can help, as can numbing lozenges that relieve pain. Drooling, inability to swallow, bleeding, difficulty speaking or difficulty breathing should be evaluated as soon as possible by a physician.
