Tubal pregnancy: Tubal ligations done at a young age carry a 20 fold higher risk of failure than when done in women over the age of 35. When pregnancy is a possibility in the context of tubal ligation, a tubal pregnancy should always be ruled out as early as possible. If there is a positive pregnancy test, this can be done by transvaginal ultrasound.
