Severely itchy eyes for over a week that get bloodshot and swollen due to rubbing. symptom subsides with anti-histamine eyedrops and pill, but effects wear off in 6-8 hours. no secretions. am also recovering from a cold and cough.

Could be allergies: Colds should not cause itching of the eyes. Ketotifen eye drops work for up to 12 hrs for ocular allergy. Cool compresses can also help the redness and itch. Keep your hands away from your eyes, it will only make things worse.
