Methadone is: a long acting medication that is used for opiate dependence. It's first use began in 1965, and was developed by Dr. Nyswander, the American psychiatrist. The physicians here can prescribe appropriate medications for specific illnesses after an evaluation to determine a patients needs. We are limited in our prescribing of controlled substances.
