Depends.: A commitment process are used for patients who are a danger to himself or others and do not understand his need for treatment. A judge will rule on the commitment after a request is made by any adult who knows the patient and supported by two doctors' recommendations.

Drastic cut: That is a drastic cut if you have been in Methadone maintenance. I don't know what the mental health law is in louisiana, but in most states the physician must be able to demonstrate that the patient is either suicidal or homicidal or otherwise unable to care for themselves if they want to commit someone.
