See periodontist: If any periodontal disease (gum infection) is suspected, your dentist should refer you to see a periodontist for sectioning off abutted molar or other procedures.

Decay or gums?: A viable option is to have the general dentist section the bridge and evaluate the margin. If the tooth had a gun infection, the periodontist would be best to treat that area.
