A member asked:

Recently i an ecocardiogram results are left ventricular diastolic dysfuntion.can you tellme how bad it's for the heart please or more information.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variable...: Diastolic dysfunction means the heart muscle is a little bit "stiff", doesn't relax the way it should. Systolic, or pumping ability is usually not affected. Usually due to underlying hypertension, due to Insulin Resistance. Depending on the severity, can cause shortness of breath with exertion or even at rest. Treatments is beta blockers or Ca++ channel blockers like Verapamil or Diltiazem.
