Hi,i would like to know does absence seizures cause mental retardation.

Seizures are the...: Seizures are the result of abnormalities in the brain structure, imbalances in brain chemistry or electrical signals, etc... Seizures are not the cause of the brain problems, but rather the person's brain problems may be causing the seizures. That means seizures and mental retardation can both be due to some other brain problem, but the seizures and mental retardation are not causing one another.
