Get a check-up: Tonsillitis is usually caused by an infection which is can be transmitted from another infected person by coughing, or close contact, including kissing. If your tonsils are swollen, it would be good to see your doctor. Lab tests can help to identify the cause, and in some cases it is important to take antibiotics by prescription.
