Most stronger cough: medications require a prescription, because quite a few of them are scheduled and/or narcotics. Sore throats can be treated with lozenges and ibuprofen/ acetaminophen, even some anesthetic sprays. Over the counter you would need any preparation with the words "DM" in it. DM stands for dextromethorphan which is active ingredient in over the counter cough suppressants.

Sore throat: Robitussin (guaifenesin) is a cough medication and it does not relieve sore throat. If you have a pain, then you might need to get checked.
