Topical meds: The most common prescription for yeast infections anymore is an oral anti fungal. This is very effective, but a topical yeast medication may help take the edge off your discomfort a little quicker. You can pick up a topical yeast medication in the pharmacy in the feminine hygiene aisle. If you are not feeling better in a few days you should follow up with your provider.

You're right: Yes, ibuprofen is a good choice to help relieve your discomfort while waiting for the infection to resolve with treatment. Naproxen and acetaminophen are 2 other over-the-counter options which would be similarly effective. Naproxen and ibuprofen should not be taken together. Avoid anything intravaginal such as feminine hygiene products (douching) which is more likely to worsen the problem.
