Valacyclovir: You can get a prescription from your doctor for a drug called Valacyclovir to avoid getting a cold sore. Treatment for an oral outbreak is two one gram pills by mouth every twelve hours for a total of 4 grams in one day, as soon as possible at the first sign of outbreak. If you have frequent outbreaks because of sunshine or stress, one can take suppressive therapy, ask your MD. Good luck
